Langston Hughes:
I Dream A World
compiled by the Porchlight Ensemble
poetry by Langston Hughes

In the early 1920's there was a massive explosion of creativity in the upper west reaches of Manhattan. It came to be
known as the Harlem Renaissance. Poetry, visual art, literature and music flourished! White and black people flocked to
Harlem to hear Jazz and Blues and to experience the vitality and talent of artists like Duke Ellingtonand Ethel Waters.
The writers included, W.E.B. Du Bois and Langston Hughes.

In the spirit of this creative era, a small ensemble of actors weave their way through more than 20 poems from different
eras in Hughes' remarkable life. Narration illuminates his early life, his commitment to social justice, and the sheer beauty
of the poetry itself.

We enjoyed the way that the poetry was acted out with motion instead of just being recited at a stand still.
The beats and rhythms were enticing.
